Dear Parents, January 6, 2017
First and foremost, I wanted to thank you all for all the donations given for our class service project. I appreciate your giving hearts. Also, thank you for the Christmas gifts and for thinking of me. Additionally, I am grateful for all the supplies that are sent with your child to help us with our projects.
I know I have been a slacker with a newsletter this year, so I am going to do my best to recap events and curriculum learned up to this point.
We started out the year learning about Utah Environments, Physical Features, Counties, and Symbols. We have created animals/insects, salt dough for relief maps, and county float and slides. In addition, we’ve studied the water cycle and Utah’s Native American Tribes celebrating with a Pow Wow where we learned how to make Fry Bread, games and activities. We even had the opportunity to watch on our own, Emma Youngbull, share her talent of hoop dancing! We recently have begun our study of Utah Explorers and the weather
In math, we have learned how to multiply and divide greater number using a variety of strategies. We are currently working on fractions and patterns.
We have learned how to write summaries and discuss our reading in groups. We are able to write both informational and opinion five paragraph essays.
I try to keep my class website missbybee.weebly.com current with math strategies, science information, social studies facts, and reading vocabulary. Also, there is a blog tab where I post pictures of activities and projects.
Thank you for encouraging your child to read at home. It has been fun to see the students find a new genre to enjoy as they read each month.
Finally, watching the students grow each day is such a highlight. They are hard workers and don’t let failure get it their way. Our class motto is, “Let Failure be our Fuel!” They take that message personal and know that it is through their mistakes they learn and progress.
I hope to continue with this success as we continue through the second part of the year.
Sincerely,
Miss Bybee

Relief Map
This month in social studies we have been studying the physical features of Utah. On Friday, October 7, we will be making relief maps with salt dough.
Please have the students bring a 8x11 piece of cardboard and make the following recipe of salt dough. The recipe should be divide into three colors of green, orange, and brown. (And a small bag of blue). Put each color in a separate baggie. Here is the recipe:
Salt Dough
2 cups of flour
1/2 cup salt
3/4 cup hot water (for best results, put the color in the water before mixing)
1 tsp oil
Mix salt and flour together. Gradually add water until dough be comes elastic. Add oil, (if mixture is too sticky and more flour if the mixture is too crumbly, add water.) Knead dough until it is a good consistency.
Thank you for your wonderful support!

Christmas Service Project.
I just wanted to say thank you all so much for all your donations for the service project. We did phase one by cutting out the monsters and getting them ready.
The plan for the Christmas party is for Friday December 18th from 12:30-3:30. We will finish up stuffing the monsters and sewing on the eyes and other items. We could use as much help that day. I would like to separate it into 2 shifts.
12:30-2
2-3:30.
Please let me know as soon as possible what time would work better for you. Thanks again

Hello-
I can't believe that it is getting so close to Christmas. This year for our Christmas party Miss Bybee would love to do a service project and get the kids involved.
We are going to be putting these fun little monsters together to give other kids.
To make this work I am asking for help with some donations. We need lots of felt (any colors) and embroidery floss (any colors) Please look at the attachment below so you can see what they might look like when they are done
I will be collecting these items between now and December 3rd.
We are planning on doing cutting these out either the 4 or 5 of December and then i will need help seeing them together to be ready to finish decorating them on Friday December 18th during the originally scheduled party time (maybe even happening half of the day).
Please let me know if you have any questions or are willing to help either of those two days or with sewing.
Thanks for all your help. We are excited to see the kids do something for someone else during these holidays.
I hope you all have a safe and fun Thanksgiving.
